Eco School

What is an Eco School?

As one of the few schools in the whole of Wales to have obtained the Platinum Eco Award we are continuing to work hard to look after our school environment.

Please click here to watch a video about how we first achieved this award.

We strive to continue with the principles of Eco-Schools.

‘We start each year by electing Eco reps from each year group to create a new committee. All through the year, we continue with our Eco promises, such as making sure that everyone recycles and saves water and then we think of new ideas to help improve our school and community.’ (Eco Committee 2019)

Powys Battery recycling Competition 2019

We joined the Powys Battery competition (Nov 2018 – Apr 2019) with the help of the PTFA and the Head teacher. We spoke to children and explained the damage that batteries can do to the environment if they are disposed of incorrectly. We were given a battery collection box and then set out encouraging as many people as we could to bring their used batteries in. People from all over town brought their batteries to be collected and by the end of the competition, thought we didn’t win, we had collected over 124kg of batteries. All of these were saved from going to landfill and we are really proud of our achievement. It went so well that we are continuing to recycle batteries in school and in the community. The box in the entrance is now a permanent feature. We are hoping to collect even more batteries this year.

If you have any used batteries please bring them along to the entrance of the school where you will find our battery recycling point. Thank you!
